The Story Behind Built to Last

Some things are built to last a season. Others are built to hold through the hard years, the identity shifts, the moments where you wonder to yourself if there’s a better way. This podcast is about the second kind of building.

Welcome to our brand new podcast, Built to Last! We’re Adrian and Kate Addamo, husband and wife, holistic performance coach and business mentor, and two people who’ve spent years figuring out a different way to live and work.

We’re sharing how this podcast came to be, what we’re both seeing with the men and women we work with, and why we decided it was time to have this conversation together.

The Origin Story

Where the name came from and why we built this podcast.

Kate had been hosting her own podcast, Life and Business in Flow, for four years before it quietly went on hiatus in 2025. There was no real plan for when, or if, it would come back. But towards the end of that year, a niggle started to grow. Not just to restart something, but to create something new. Something that went deeper.

Health, hormones, low-tox living, relationships, lifestyle, business, mindset, all of the things we’ve spent years learning, unlearning and implementing into our own lives. Kate knew this wasn’t just personal. It was knowledge worth sharing, and she could see the ripple effect it could have on women, men, families, and business owners. On the people who are quietly looking for a different way but haven’t found the right conversation yet.

Adrian had wanted to launch his own podcast for a while. Twice, he’d had it on the goal list. Twice it hadn’t happened. When Kate came to him with the idea of doing it together, his first instinct was a firm NO. He had a vision for his own platform, his own message, his own direction and he wasn’t sure combining the two made sense.

It took some convincing but the more they talked about what this could be, the shared language they’d always had, the complementary perspectives they brought and the very real gap they were both seeing with their clients, it started to feel less like a compromise and more like something that had to be created together.

The name came together on a trip to Europe, retracing the Sicilian roots of Adrian’s family. Standing beneath the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, looking up at something that had held for centuries through wars, revolutions and entire shifts in how humans live, it landed. Back home, we’re replacing things every few years and calling it ‘normal’. These things have stood for centuries. That contrast stayed with us and it’s at the heart of everything we want to talk about.

BUILT TO LAST. It felt right, for the podcast and for everything we wanted to build within it.

❝We have completely stepped away from society’s conditioning and all of the ‘shoulds’. We do things very differently and we’ve seen how much it’s worked for us and for a lot of our clients who’ve taken things on board.– Kate Addamo

Why Now?

The gap is growing. Someone has to talk about it.

Between the two of us, we work with people in a fairly intimate way. The kind of one-on-one space where people tend to say what they actually mean, where the armour comes off and the real conversation begins. And right now, across both of our businesses, we’re seeing the same thing from different angles.

Kate works with mainly women, and what she’s witnessing has shifted significantly in the past six to twelve months. More women are arriving burnt out, unwell and running on empty. Women who are carrying the mental load, building businesses, managing households and holding everyone else together, all while quietly losing themselves in the process. Women who have spent so long people-pleasing, shrinking themselves and living by everyone else’s rules that they’ve completely disconnected from what they actually want.

Some are dealing with hormonal health issues that have gone unaddressed for years. Others are so deep in their masculine energy, just pushing through and doing it all, that their relationships, their health and their sense of self have paid the price.

In eight years of coaching, Kate has never seen as many women wanting to build their businesses because they are considering leaving their marriages as she has in the past year alone. That’s not a small thing to say. But it’s what’s happening and it matters.

Adrian works with high performers, business owners and teams, and he’s seeing the other side of that same story.

Men who are doing everything they were told would bring them fulfilment – working hard, providing, succeeding, building, and getting there, only to find that nobody told them what comes next.

Men who feel the weight of it all but don’t have the language to name it or the outlet to release it. Men who are checked out, overwhelmed, carrying too much of the wrong things and not enough of what actually matters. Men who want to show up as better leaders, better husbands, better fathers, but have never been given the tools or the permission to look honestly at how they’re living.

The gap between the two is real and it’s growing.

Women are investing in themselves, evolving and asking hard questions. Men are often still operating from a blueprint that stopped being updated decades ago. And the toll that gap is taking on relationships, on families, on health and on how people show up every day, is exactly what brought us to this conversation.

We’re not here because we have all the answers. We’re here because we’ve asked the same questions, done the work and come out the other side with a perspective worth sharing.

Built to Last is the space where both sides of that story get the conversation they deserve.

❝The wedding date became the finish line, not the start line. I feel like that’s an aspect of it. There’s a lot of pressure and it’s not that men don’t want to do more. I feel there’s an element of not having the capacity, or the language, to let go of what they don’t need to carry. ❞ – Adrian Addamo

Lived Knowledge. Four Pillars.

What we share on this podcast isn’t borrowed knowledge or something we read in a book. It comes from living it, from burnout, people-pleasing, hormonal health challenges, grief and two decades in a corporate world that looked good from the outside and felt hollow from the inside.

We’ve done a lot of unlearning and a lot of rebuilding. And these are the four areas we’ll keep coming back to, because they’re the four areas that changed everything for us.

01. HEALTH

Health is the foundation on which everything else is built and it’s often the first thing to go when life gets heavy. Kate has walked through burnout, hormonal health challenges and the grief of losing her mum to breast cancer. She’s come out the other side with a deeply personal and practical understanding of what it means to truly care for yourself, not as a concept, but as a daily practice.

For Adrian, health looks different. As an ultra-athlete and holistic performance coach, he understands what the body is capable of when it’s given what it actually needs and what it costs when it’s not. Together, we’ve both had to completely rethink our relationship with our bodies, our energy and what it means to put ourselves first so we can show up fully for everything else.

02. HOME

Home isn’t just where you live. It’s the environment you return to every day and it shapes more than most people realise. We’ve relocated, rebuilt routines and redesigned the way we operate together at home. The rhythm of our days, the way we communicate, the boundaries we hold and the lifestyle choices we’ve made, including moving towards a lower tox way of living, have all been intentional.

People who knew us a decade ago would notice the difference. That’s not an accident. It’s the result of asking ourselves honestly what we actually want our home life to feel like and making the choices to match.

03. RELATIONSHIPS

We’ve been together thirteen years, married for 8. And we’ll be honest, if we hadn’t both done the work, individually and together, we’re not sure we’d still be here. Relationships are one of the areas where the conditioning runs deepest, where the shoulds are loudest and where the gap between what looks good and what actually feels good can be widest.

The masculine and feminine dynamics, the polarity, the moments of real tension and the shifts we’ve had to make are all part of our story. We’ll be talking about all of it, because we think it’s one of the most important and least honestly discussed areas of life.

04. BUSINESS

Adrian spent over two decades in the corporate world before stepping away and building something entirely on his own terms. Kate has built her mentoring and retreat business from the ground up, navigating what it means to create work that is genuinely aligned with who she is and how she wants to live.

Between us, we know what it’s like to work hard within a structure that doesn’t quite fit, to follow someone else’s definition of success and to find your way back to your own. Business is about so much more than strategy. It’s about identity, energy, values, foundations and systems and what you’re actually building towards. That’s the conversation we want to have.

Who’s BUILT TO LAST For?

This podcast is for the person who has a quiet feeling that something needs to change, even if they can’t quite put their finger on what that is yet.

Maybe you’re a woman who has spent years pouring into everyone and everything around you and woke up one day wondering where you went. Maybe you’re a man who has worked hard, built things, provided and shown up and still can’t shake the feeling that something is missing. Maybe you’re both moving through life in parallel rather than together.

If you’re tired of living by a blueprint that was never really yours, if you want to feel genuinely well, build a business that lights you up and have a relationship that feels like a real partnership, this podcast is for you.

We’re not here to tell you what you should be doing. We’re here to have the kind of honest, grounded conversation that actually shifts something.

This probably isn’t for people who are genuinely content with how things are and that’s fine.

But if you’re open to questioning, unlearning and doing things differently, you’re in exactly the right place.

COME AND BUILD SOMETHING THAT LASTS.
